Strongly encouraged by many organisation and interest groups in the area, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council is applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund for a grant towards the establishment of a community heritage centre for the town.
The Experience Barnsley bid, as it has become known, envisages using the architecturally important Town Hall as a hub for heritage-related activities across the borough. Under the plans set out in the bid, the Town Hall will house a community museum, historical archives, a local history library, exhibition areas, a learning resource centre, a play area, an art gallery and much more.
