Big Lottery Fund

big_lotteryFollowing the publication in July 2003 of the Government’s review of the distribution of Lottery funding, the Big Lottery Fund was established.

The Big Lottery Fund brings together the work of two former National Lottery distributors: the Community Fund, which provided funding for charities and
the voluntary and community sectors, and the New Opportunities Fund, which provided funding for health, education and environment projects. The Big Lottery Fund also replaces the Millennium Commission’s role of supporting large-scale regeneration projects.

The Big Lottery Fund will distribute around £300m each year and will help to make big, positive changes for the communities that receive funding. Regenerating, revitalising and transforming communities is at the heart of the Big Lottery Fund’s remit.

It is to the Big Lottery Fund that Barnsley’s Living Landmark grant application has been submitted.
The timescale for the programme of evaluation of grant applications for funding for Living Landmark projects is as follows:

April to June 2006 Review of Living Landmark applications
July 2006 Decision by The Big Lottery Fund’s programme
Committee on whether to award a grant or reject a Living
Landmark application
August 2006 Notification of the decision to applicants
August 2006 to May 2007 Successful applicants develop their projects and prepare
their stage 2 applications
June to August 2007 Living Landmark Programme Committee will make a final
decision on awarding or rejecting funding.

It is the Big Lottery Fund that needs to be persuaded of the importance of Barnsley’s Living Landmark to the town and its people.  Make your views known by sending a your letter of support for the Barnsley’s Living Landmark.  Even better start a petition in favour of Barnsley’s Living Landmark.
